According to the Hindu Calendar, the festival of Navratri is celebrated four times in a year, which falls in the months of Sharad, Chaitra, Magha and Aashada. Among them, the Chaitra and Sharad Navratri are very special for the devotees of Goddess Durga. They worship day and night for nine days. It is because of the nine-day worship that it is known as Navratri.
This year, the Sharad Navratri begins from 7th of October. During the Sharad Navratri, the devotees worship nine forms of Goddess Durga and seek Her blessings. The Puja is done in the following manner.
Nine Days and Nine Forms of Goddess Durga
First Day – Kalash Establishment also known as Ghatsthapana; Date & Day – 7th October 2021, Thursday.
On the first day of Sharad Navratri, devotees place decorated pot filled with water and a coconut on top, to invite Maa Durga. They also offer roli, Kumkum, gulal and akshat in a beautiful Decorated Plate. The first form of Maa Durga is called Maa Shailputri. She is worshipped as the symbol of moon. She removes all bad fortunes and omen. On this day devotees wear yellow clothes.
Second Day- Dwitiya Tithi; Date & Day-9th October 2021, Saturday
On the second day of Sharad Navratri, Maa Brahmcharini is worshipped. Maa Brahmcharini is the second form of Maa Durga and represents the planet Mars. The devotees wear Green coloured clothes while worshipping. You can also offer pooja thali filled with roli, Akshat and sweets. Offering Green Beads Mala will remove all sorrow, pains and troubles.
Third Day –Tritya Tithi; Date & Day – 9th October 2021, Saturday
Mother Chandraghanta is worshiped on the third day of Navratri. Mother Chandraghanta controls the planet Venus. She brings power and removes all fears. Wear Grey clothes on this day and light up Diyas.
Fourth day – Chaturthi; Date & Day – 9th October 2021, Saturday
Maa Kushmanda, who represents the Sun God, is worshiped on the third day of Navratri. Wearing orange colour clothes on Chaturthi is considered auspicious. Lighting up Brass Lotus Diyas removes all problems that may come in the future.
Fifth Day – PanchamiTithi
Date & Day- 10th October 2021, Sunday
Goddess Skandmata is worshiped on the fifth day of Sharad Navratri. She showers special blessings on the devotee who worship her with white beads. On this day, wearing white coloured cloth is considered auspicious.
Sixth Day – ShashthiTithi; Date & Day – 11th October 2021, Monday
The sixth day is dedicated to Mother Katyaayani, who controls planet Jupiter. Wearing red clothes and offering prayers on this day increases our courage and strength.
Seventh Day – Saptami Tithi; Date & Day – 12th October 2021, Tuesday
The seventh form of Maa Durga is Kaalratri. She symbolizes the planet Saturn. Maa Kaalratri brings bravery to her devotees. Devotees should wear Blue colour clothes on Shaptmi Tithi.
Eighth Day – Ashtami Tithi; Date & Day- 13th October 2021, Wednesday
Eighth Day is called Ashtami Tithi. This day is very auspicious. Devotees offer Halwa-Poori, Bangles, Earrings and Gifts to Kanchika (Girls below 13years) with the belief that they are the forms of Maa Durga. Maa Mahagauri is worshiped on this day. She controls Rahu and removes all the negative forces from the life of her devotees.
Ninth Day – Navami Tithi; Date & Day – 14th October 2021, Thursday
Ninth Day is called the Navami Tithi. Devotees should wear Purple clothes. On this day, Maa Sidhhidatri is worshiped who represents the planet Rahu. Offer her prasad in Decorated Thali, Light Diyas and pray. Her worship brings wisdom and knowledge.
Tenth Day – DashmiTithi; Date & Day- 15th October 2021, Friday
On this day Sharad Navratri ends. Maa Durga is immersed with the Hawan and worship. It is believed that all God and Goddess are satisfied only after Hawan. Perform Hawan with full Hawan Kund Samagri and home prosperity and happiness and good luck.
